The stool is made from 3/4" and 1/2" plywood. It's strengthened by cross beams below each step. Threaded rods anchor the two sides together for ultimate strength.

Each side is backed by a brace made from 1/2" plywood. Each brace supports one end of each step and one end of a cross beam under each step. A 1/2" plywood back supports the back edge of the top step. The stool's construction relies on glue and nails.
